What our winners and our sponsors say about the FreeFrom Food Awards
What the sponsors say:
"Big Oz, owned by London Food, is a newcomer to sponsoring the FFFA but as a manufacturer of products free from the 14 major allergens we know all the hard work and effort that goes into making great quality products suitable for both the health conscious consumer and those with allergies. This is our way to help celebrate that and to let those consumers know that products made without allergens are still full of flavour and goodness like the Big Oz range."
"It has been amazing to see Free From grow from strength to strength over the years. The FreeFrom Food Awards are a great way to recognise the range of fantastic products in the category."
“Helping to broaden the choice of delicious and safe free-from foods is at the heart of what we do at FREEE. Supporting the FFFA, who is doing a marvellous job celebrating and promoting the industry, is therefore a perfect fit for us”
“Delamere Dairy has supported the FFF Awards since it started at Antony Worrall Thompson’s Notting Grill restaurant in 2007. During this time, the Free From industry has evolved massively. Back then, goats’ milk and soya were the ‘go to’ alternatives for cows’ milk intolerant consumers. Fast forward 12 years, we have lactose free, oat, rice, coconut, almond, spelt, pea, hazelnut, hemp…the list goes on. Michelle, Cressida and the team have championed such products through the FFF awards, which celebrates the plethora of products and ingredient solutions now available to allergy sufferers, and strives to bring dietary specific products into the mainstream.”
"The FFFA have been at the forefront of driving innovation, awareness and availability of an increasing range in the Free From arena since before it was a trend. They remain a focus point for the industry and are a great platform for communication and engagement.”
"It’s Oakland International’s sixth year of sponsoring the FreeFrom Food Awards. A fast-growing market and a reflection of today’s consumer demand for healthier food options, as a supply chain business we’ve witnessed how freefrom retail growth is reflected across our consolidation, contract packing and distribution business platforms and we’re keen to continue our support to highlight the importance of the freefrom sector, which not only provides choice for lifestyle consumers but is an important food growth sector for allergy sufferers."
What the winners say:
“Our win opened a door to a national distributor in the UK allowing us to get our popcorn in front of all the big UK contract caters, winning new business with Baxter Storey, Caterlink and many others! A fantastic award like this really does get you noticed! We are delighted with our win and will be entering our Hasta La Vista in next years award 100%”
“The Free From Food Awards is a great event that has become an important part of our annual event calendar. As the Free From industry grows, so too does the competition, winning gold is a tremendous achievement. We are committed to product innovation and this win provides further recognition that we are on the right path.”
“For us in the Bellygoodness family, winning 2 Golds at FFFA19, in the very early stages of our journey with our exciting new freefrom sauces, has meant so so much to us. Combining our skills as Nutritionists and Creative cooks created such enthusiastic passion for our product and this achievement was a wonderful reward for us all and we are so proud. We are v excited to be entering other flavours in the #FFFA20 and our fingers are crossed for further success.“
“For us at Nairn’s, winning gold is as much about internal reward as it is about anything external or consumer facing. For those involved in developing and trialling the products and bringing them to market, winning any of the FFFAs is further recognition of a job well done and gives a real sense of pride and achievement to the team.”
“Winning Gold at the Free From Food Awards was our biggest achievement to date. It is amazing to know that a recipe we spent so long developing and certifying has got this recognition. The Gold badge has created more awareness of our products and the category as a whole, has highlighted FODMAP Friendly foods as a real need in the UK, to both retail buyers and consumers. We are thrilled to have won Gold, it was so unexpected and we are still so grateful to the judges!”
“Winning a gold award at this year Free From Food Awards has meant a lot to our small but fast-growing business. In an age where getting real cut-through to customers and shoppers is challenging, we are using the gold logo on our website, in our presentations to potential new customers and during our discussions to really help to frame the great taste credentials of the brand”.
“For a young business like Yorica, positive peer reviews are critical to help us to stand out from the crowd. Every new food business believes they are unique and great tasting; to have an impartial 3rd party [such as the FreeFrom Food Awards] confirm this independently builds credibility and enhances self-belief in amongst the rough and tumble of daily operations”.
“At Food for Progress our core value is food appeal. Our aim is to create plant-based foods which are tasty, nutritious and climate-friendly. Oumph! Thyme & Garlic winning Gold in the FreeFrom Food Awards means a lot to us. It is further proof that we have succeeded in making amazing products that appeal to everyone!”
“We’re proud to be providing our customers with a gold award-winning sandwich, as we are always looking to improve our great tasting range at a price they can trust. It is also a fantastic achievement to the team involved in developing the product and bringing it to the market who are committed to delivering quality products for all lifestyles.”
"We were looking at the different awards that we could enter that actually mean something in the freefrom industry. We want people to find out more about our products especially our sourdough bread which is the thing that we’re MOST proud of! [Gold winner of 2 categories at FFFA18!]"
"As a retailer we are constantly pushing to tell customers about the quality of products, so to be recognised with a freefrom award is massive!”
"There is a lot of trepidation about dairy or gluten free products having the same quality as a main aisle product potentially and it's our responsibility to make sure when a customer is taking that risk that they’re actually rewarded and we can deliver a product that is as good in quality and ... the FFFA are a really good way of calling that quality out!”
‘We loved being part of the FFFA18 awards and thrilled to have won Gold. The judges comments were accurate and we had plenty of amazing discussions at the networking party meeting smaller and larger producers of winning products’.
“We have been entering the FFFAs since 2010 and have had some incredible networking opportunities, caught up with industry leaders, began collaborations and even met with senior buyers who listed our products in stores, so to have won Gold this year for our Cacao Nibbles was the icing on the cake. We are incredibly proud to be part of the Free From family.”
“This year (2018) we won Gold at the Free From Food Awards for our Dairy Free Grated Mild Cheddar Sheese. We have submitted products to these awards over the last ten years, and have been proud to win awards for various products. The process of entering the products is clear and straight forward. The Bute Island team have attended several of the awards ceremonies and found them to be not only enjoyable, but beneficial for the business. It's always been a pleasure and an honour to be part of the Free From Awards.”
“The Free From Food Awards are one of the most credible awards on the circuit, and we tend to enter products every year. Much of our innovation in recent years has been in the gluten free side of our business so it’s a great opportunity for us to showcase some of our new products. To free from consumers, displaying the winners logo on pack is a sign of quality and safety, and a win certainly adds value to the conversations our sales team have with their buyer contacts when talking about listings. The awards themselves are really straightforward to enter and very well organised and they’re attracting some great brands, both big and small, to enter which highlights just how far free from foods have come in recent years.”
"Winning at the Free From Food Awards has had a hugely positive impact on our young brewery. It's given both us and our customers confidence in our beers and we were so chuffed to win!"
"Winning the Free From Food Award for our Turmeric shot raised the profile of the product as well as validating our product as a healthy, free from drink. We noticed this particularly when we were exhibiting at the Speciality Fine Food Fair this year.”
“Winning the award has really contributed to internal morale and re-enforced that we are launching fantastic products under our Free & Easy brand. It has also provided buyers with independent validation of the quality of our products, which is very important.“
“Winning Gold at the Free From Awards this year has given us fantastic footing. The judges alone have been amazingly helpful and we are now in Harrods’ brand new bake hall as well as the incredibly fast-growing Farmstand restaurant, amongst many other outlets off the back of our win, Thank you Free From Food Awards!”
"Winning Gold in Desserts & Puddings 2017 has been a major benchmark for our product. The logo immediately helps differentiate our ice cream for the rest and helps us stand out on the shelves. Our Mint Choc Chip is our most popular flavour, and sales increased noticeably after winning the award. We are very proud of the little yellow sticker!" Cecily Mills, Founder, Coconuts Organic
Colin and Sithabile Mace of Booja Booja, winners of the FreeFrom Food Awards 2019, with Michelle Berriedale-Johnson, Director of the awards.

"This year (2018) we finally won Gold at the FreeFrom Food Awards for our Cacao Nibbles, but it really has been the taking part that’s made the biggest difference to my business.
We’ve submitted products for the past 6 years and the awards ceremony itself has always been a fantastic networking opportunity. I’ve met like minded business, collaborated with other companies with social media and product development and best of all it’s been an opportunity to meet buyers. After chatting to the Asda buyers at the FreeFrom Food Awards 2017, I sent them product samples and we ended up with our first supermarket multiple listing 4 months later.
It has been incredible being part of the Free From Foods family. Thank you for supporting small businesses and contributing to our growth."
