Freaks of NatureHow splendid to have a choice of desserts that are gluten, milk, egg AND soya free - and which look appealing (served in the pot) and taste pretty ace.

The Freaks of Nature desserts use a cashew purée as the base for the ‘creamy’ toppings for their possets, lightened and sweetened with coconut milk and nectar. They have bases of fruit or chocolate purées and two of them are topped with chopped nuts.

The Mango Fandango is just that - a really quite zingy and mango-ey purée with a creamy ‘posset’ topping, the latter a fraction solid because of its cashew base but with a lovely delicate flavour. Chopped pistachios to go on the top come in a separate compartment to stop them going soggy:

Ingredients: Cashew Blend (Water, Cashews), Mango Puree (24.6%), Water, Coconut Milk, Passion Fruit Puree (10.4%), Coconut Nectar, Coconut Oil, Lemon Juice, Pistachios (2.0%), Tapioca Starch, Coconut Sugar, Vanilla Powder.

The Cocoa Loco chocolate found much favour with our tasters. A super chocolatey base, sweetened with dates, an equally chocolatey posset topping and this time chopped hazel nuts to go on top. Extremely yummy:

Ingredients: Cashew Blend (Water, Cashews), Coconut Milk, Dates, Cacao Powder (5.1%), Coconut Oil, Cacao Butter (3.6%), Hazelnuts (3.5%), Coconut Sugar, Sea Salt.

The least successful of the three our tasters felt was the Zingy Thingy - a raspberry coulis with a lemon posset topping. Texture excellent but just not quite enough zing in the lemon posset:

Ingredients: Cashew Blend (Water, Cashews), Raspberry Puree (23%), Coconut Milk, Coconut Nectar, Lemon Juice, Coconut Oil, Tapioca Starch, Coconut Sugar, Lemon Zest, Lemon Oil.

Freaks of Nature desserts are however a great addition to the freefrom dessert offering. Avilable to buy from various locations nationwide including Tesco & Planet Organic where they are currently on offer at £2.20 (reduced from £2.75).
