Sweet Freedom Choc Shots
Sweet Freedom, who launched their natural fruit extract alternative sweetener a few years ago (it now comes in Original and Dark), have launched gluten and dairy free Choc Shots - liquid chocolate for making hot chocolate, but also for milk shakes, topping ice cream (does it go hard like 'Ice Magic' used to?!), porridge and spreading on toast - they also suggest drizzling over fruit.... The ingredients of Sweet Freedom are used as the basis for the Choc Shots, with non-GM additions such as rapeseed oil (for smooth liquidity) and chocolate and coconut, orange and cardamom for flavour.
Overall our panel liked these products very much: they are convenient, easy to use, great for kids, with a sweetness provided by the fruit sugars rather than artificial sweeteners. They all run smoothly from the squeezy plastic bottles, but sadly they don't harden over ice cream!!
Choc Shot: silky, chocolatey liquid sauce with a fruity, chocolate aftertaste.
Ingredients: Sweet Freedom (natural fruit extracts; apples, grapes & carob), water, cocoa, rapeseed oil, natural chocolate flavour.
Choc Shot Coconut: a really rich coconut flavour that blends well with the chocolate.
Ingredients: Sweet Freedom (natural fruit extracts; apples, grapes & carob), water, cocoa, rapeseed oil, natural flavours (coconut & chocolate)
Choc Shot Orange Spice: a superbly matched balance of orange and cardamom, this would make a really warming spicy hot chocolate, and works very well standalone (though extremely rich!).
Ingredients: Sweet Freedom (natural fruit extracts; apples, grapes & carob), water, cocoa, rapeseed oil, natural flavours (chocolate, orange & cardamom)
As well as being a sugar-free sweetener, Sweet Freedom products are suitable for diabetics, vegans and vegetarians, and made in the UK.
Available from various stockists, Choc Shots cost approximately £3.50 for a squeezy 320g bottle. The Original and Dark Sweet Freedom both cost approximately £2.99.
